Overview
Budgety needed a brand that could hold financial trust and everyday approachability at the same time. Most fintech identities I audited picked one side or the other: too corporate to feel friendly, or too playful to feel credible. I designed the wallet-B mark to sit deliberately in that gap, then built a full identity system around it, color palette, business cards, and a 30-plus page guideline document.
Brand identity for a personal finance app built on the tagline 'Redefining your financial habit', logo system, color palette, typography, and business collateral that balance financial trust with everyday approachability.
The Challenge
Budgety's own positioning statement, redefining your financial habit, set the bar: the brand needed to make budgeting feel like a habit worth building, not a chore imposed on you. I reviewed more than 20 fintech identities and found the same split every time: corporate blues and rigid grids on one side, playfulness so heavy it undercut financial seriousness on the other. The opening was a mark that could carry both registers at once, without compromising either one.
Process & Exploration
Early information architecture and logo sketches, working through wallet, coin, and B-letterform directions on paper first, before any of it touched a screen.

Logo & Badge
The primary mark: a circular badge that carries the tagline around the wallet-B symbol, built to work across merchandise, packaging, and social profile applications.

Icon & Stamp Variant
The letter B reshaped into an open wallet, so it reads as both the brand initial and the product's function at a glance. A flat, glyph-only variant handles app icons and other small-scale use.

Method
Moderated brand recognition and A/B preference testing
Participants
30 target users
Task Success
94%
Key Findings
- 194% of participants correctly associated the mark with finance and budgeting on first exposure
- 2The wallet-B icon scored highest for memorability out of every logo direction tested
- 3A/B testing the primary application color found that a yellow background with the blue icon generated 40% more app store clicks than the reverse pairing
Design Process
Discovery & Research
Audited 20+ fintech brand identities and mapped where each one landed on the trust-versus-approachability spectrum, which surfaced the underserved middle ground.
Concept Development
Explored 15+ variations of a B-plus-wallet concept before landing on the geometric form that reads clearly as both letter and object.
Visual System
Built the palette around a primary blue (#1B4697) for trust and a golden yellow (#F5C842) for optimism, paired with rounded geometric type and a badge variant for merchandise.
Brand Guidelines
Delivered a 30+ page identity document covering logo usage, clear space, color specification across CMYK, RGB, and HEX, typography hierarchy, and do's and don'ts across digital and print.

Outcome
The identity shipped across the Budgety app, website, marketing materials, and social channels, and it held up consistently across 50-plus touchpoints. The wallet-B mark became the single most recalled element of the system: users could sketch it from memory after just one exposure. The badge variant even found an unplanned second life as the brand's social profile picture across every channel.
What We Learned
A dual-meaning mark, one that reads as both a letterform and a functional object, earns a kind of recall a purely abstract logo rarely gets.
Every contemporary brand identity should ship a badge or stamp variant. It wasn't in the original brief here, but it ended up as the system's most-used asset.
