Overview
The moving industry is broken in a handful of specific ways: opaque pricing, manual scheduling, no live tracking, slow issue resolution. Zinter tackles all four with one platform, a user portal with AI inventory scanning and transparent quotes, a moving company dashboard, a driver mobile app, and an admin interface for operations. I designed all four surfaces over a 6-month engagement, starting from 32 user interviews and carrying through to UAT.

The Challenge
Moving house consistently ranks among life's most stressful events, and the industry's digital experience makes it worse. In the Netherlands, customers requesting a moving quote typically waited days for a callback, received wildly divergent prices for identical jobs, and had no visibility into their move on the day itself. Was the truck coming at 9:00, or 14:00? Nobody could really say. Moving companies, meanwhile, ran their operations on phone calls, paper inventories, and WhatsApp groups, losing jobs to slow response times while drowning in coordination overhead.
The design challenge was inherently multi-sided: one ecosystem had to serve four user types with genuinely conflicting needs. Customers wanted certainty and fair prices. Moving companies wanted qualified leads and efficient dispatch. Drivers needed dead-simple day-of-move tooling usable from inside a truck cab. And platform admins had to arbitrate disputes between all of them. Every surface had to feel purpose-built while sharing one design language and one source of truth.

Key Findings
- 1Price opacity was the biggest anxiety driver. Customers who got quotes varying by up to 3x for the same move simply assumed they were being cheated
- 2Move-day uncertainty caused the most emotional distress of anything we measured: not knowing when the truck would arrive ranked worse than price itself in survey rankings
- 3Shadowing showed movers losing real crew time to inventory disputes, since what the customer described rarely matched what the crew actually found
- 4Moving companies responded to leads in one to three days on average, while customers expected an answer within hours and booked whoever replied first
- 5Drivers rejected anything that required typing on the job. Shadowing showed their context was defined by gloved hands, bright sunlight, and constant interruption

Design Approach
Four surfaces, one design language, but radically different densities depending on who's using it. I studied trust-driven platforms like Airbnb, Uber, and TaskRabbit to calibrate the emotional register: calm, transparent, and reassuring for customers, dense and operational for movers and admins, glanceable and glove-friendly for drivers. Everything hangs off a single shared job record, so a status change a driver taps in a truck cab updates the customer's tracking screen and the mover's dispatch board at the same moment. On the customer surface, I led with the two trust moments research had identified: the itemized binding quote and live move-day tracking.
A unified design system with four themed surface layers and 90+ shared components, covering quote breakdowns, dispatch boards, tracking maps, checklist patterns, and claim timelines.

The user-facing web experience is built to take the stress out of moving. From the landing page through the AI-powered room scanner and instant quote comparison, every interaction is doing one job: building trust. Users set up their move details, get transparent quotes from verified movers, and track their belongings in real time, all from one interface.



Moving Companies Portal
The mover-facing dashboard changes how moving companies run their operations: one hub for incoming requests, job scheduling, revenue analytics, and driver assignments. Companies accept or decline jobs, view upcoming moves on a calendar, and track delivery status in real time, closing the manual scheduling gaps our research kept turning up.


Driver App
A separate, glove-friendly mobile app for the day of the move: a glanceable job plan, navigation, an inventory checklist, and one-tap status updates, built to a strict 48px touch-target standard so it works one-handed from inside a truck cab. Screenshots pending.
Admin Portal
The admin dashboard gives full platform oversight, from revenue charts and user growth metrics to a dispute resolution center. Admins triage issues, manage mover onboarding, monitor service quality, and keep an eye on platform health from here. During beta testing, the issue resolution workflow cut admin response time from 48 hours down to just 12.

Key Findings
- 194% of customers found the quote process clear and reassuring. The itemized breakdown came up again and again as the single biggest trust builder
- 2The AI inventory scan needed an editing pass. Users wanted to correct or remove misidentified items before the quote was generated
- 3Movers adopted the dispatch board right away but asked for a week view. The day view alone didn't match how they actually plan crews
- 4Drivers completed status flows one-handed in testing, but the inventory checklist needed bigger tap targets for gloved use
- 5Admin dispute resolution using linked evidence averaged under 15 minutes per case in simulation, which validated the whole structured claims model
01 · AI inventory errors undermined quote trust
Before
The scanner's item list fed straight into quoting, and misidentified items produced wrong prices, which quietly eroded the whole transparency promise.
After
I inserted a review-and-edit step with confidence indicators before quote generation. Perceived quote accuracy rose sharply in the next test round.
02 · Dispatch board mismatched planning rhythm
Before
The mover dashboard defaulted to a day view, but owners actually plan crews and trucks across the whole week.
After
I redesigned dispatch around a week-first board with drag-to-assign crews, making day view a drill-down instead of the default. Mover testers called it the feature that would make them switch.
03 · Driver checklist failed the glove test
Before
Inventory check-off used standard list rows, and drivers kept mis-tapping them while wearing work gloves during field validation.
After
I rebuilt it as full-width swipe-to-confirm rows with oversized targets and haptic feedback. Error rate in the follow-up field test dropped to near zero.

Outcome
4.8/5 user satisfaction, a 60% reduction in support tickets, and a 35% increase in mover onboarding. Admin issue resolution came down from 48 hours to 12. The platform launched in the Netherlands, with European expansion planned from there.
What We Learned
In multi-sided platforms, the highest-leverage move is usually upstream. Fixing inventory accuracy at quote time solved pricing, dispatch, and dispute problems across every other surface at once.
Trust gets built at two or three specific moments, not evenly across the whole product. Finding those moments (the binding quote, live tracking) and over-investing in them mattered more than polishing everything equally.
Field shadowing beats interviews for operational users. No driver ever mentioned gloves in an interview, but four hours riding in a truck made that constraint impossible to miss.
